Volcano Percussion: Hawaiian Mango Conga Drums

To imagine that one could take 24 boards, shape them to fit together perfectly and create a beautiful looking, as well as great sounding drum, is what Tom Alexander, master drum-maker and owner of Volcano Percussion of Hawaii has been able to accomplish after many years of research and development of his products. Hand made from Hawaiian Mango wood , no two drums are alike because all drums are built in sets of three from the same tree. Resembling gallery quality art pieces, these conga drums not only look like an expensive sports car but also perform like it. The tonality of each drum is fantastic regardless of the level of tuning. The 11” quinto (smallest drum) produces crackling brilliant highs with an incredible projection of sound. The 11.75” conga delivers strong, rich sounds while the 12.5” tumba commands a deep bass sound through it’s 16” belly in addition to its impressive projection. Completing these high-end incredible hand drums is it’s 100% stainless steel hardware and solid rubber bottoms. Rather than lacquer finish, these drums are baptized with an acrylic polymer(ureathane), which will not crack and prevents abrasions. Overall, these are the ultimate conga drums on the market today. Conga player Eddie Del Rio (currently with Johnny Polanco y Conjunto Amistad of Los Angeles) commented: “At first glance the beauty of the craftsmanship of these drums is somewhat hypnotic. They look very natural as well as tropical. Playing them is like driving a luxury car. The heads are smooth and easy on the hands while the sound tonality and projection are incredible. The quinto has a monster sound. I love these drums!” Priced accordingly, these drums are worth every penny.
